After passing the primary FRCS examinations, he undertook specialist surgical training on the Cambridge rotation, passing the intercollegiate speciality board examinations whilst working as a Senior Surgical Registrar at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. During this time he spent a year working as a Surgical Fellow in Perth, Western Australia, where he specialised in the treatment of major surgical trauma.
Having been awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training, he was awarded a travelling bursary by Addenbrookes Hospital to visit Minnesota in North America where he furthered his education under the tutelage of the University of Minnesota Department of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
Following his return, he was appointed as Consultant Surgeon to the Chesterfield Royal Hospital in April 2003. He is currently the lead clinician for Colorectal Cancer and lead surgeon for Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
