Dr Richard Turner is a highly experienced Consultant Dermatologist providing private dermatology care at The Winterbourne Hospital in Dorchester.

With more than 25 years of consultant experience, he specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. He is also highly skilled in melanoma assessment and complex skin surgery, including Mohs surgery.

Dr Turner welcomes both self-pay and insured patients, and you do not need a GP referral to book an appointment.

Education and Training

Dr Turner qualified in medicine from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1989.

He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 1992 and gained specialist recognition in dermatology in 1999. In 2002, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP).

He completed specialist dermatology training at several leading NHS hospitals, including the Royal Victoria Infirmary, before becoming a Consultant Dermatologist in Oxford in 1999.

Throughout his career, Dr Turner has held a number of senior leadership positions within the NHS, including the Chairman of the Thames Valley Skin Cancer Network. Dr Turner is also committed to teaching and training. He regularly supports junior doctors, surgical trainees and GPs through clinics, workshops and educational meetings.

He founded a local teaching programme called "Skin Club", where healthcare professionals learn from real patient cases and discuss advances in dermatology and skin cancer care.

Dr Turner is currently Dermatology Cancer Lead at Churchill Hospital, Oxford, where he performs around 700 skin surgery procedures each year.

Dr Turner has particular expertise in Mohs micrographic surgery. This specialised technique removes skin cancer layer by layer while preserving as much healthy skin as possible.
