Richard Sinnerton is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder and elbow problems. He trained as a doctor at St.Thomas' Hospital and as a specialist surgeon at St. Mary's Hospital in London. In 1996 he was selected to spend a year in Nice, France as Fellow to Professor Boileau who is widely recognised as one of the world's leading shoulder experts. It was this relationship that inspired him to become a shoulder surgeon. On returning to the UK he was appointed as a consultant at Ashford/St. Peters Hospital where he set up the very successful Upper Limb Unit. He now works full-time as an independent surgeon seeing private and NHS patients.
Mr Sinnerton treats all conditions of the shoulder and elbow whether caused by accident or over-use; through a sporting injury; or arthritic and congenital problems. He selects the best of the new medical technologies to use along side tried and tested traditional techniques to provide the best tailored answer for each individual's concerns.
He has developed a national and international reputation for using Reverse Geometry Shoulder Replacements to treat some of the most complex and disabling shoulder problems for which, until a few years ago, there was no solution. He teaches other surgeons this technique and recently was invited by the leading orthopaedic journal to write the definitive article on shoulder replacement.
He works very closely with selected specialist theatre nurses, anaesthetists and physiotherapists to ensure that the patient is looked after from their first visit through to their return to full and pain free function.
Mr Sinnerton can see and consult on children of all ages. Whilst most young children can be managed without surgery, when it is required, he undertakes this at The Princess Margaret Hospital for children aged 3 and above.
