Effective August 2025, Mr Harkerl will be available to consult with patients aged 16 and above at the Hampshire Clinic 

Mr Harker is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based at the Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust. His home hospital is the North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke. He is the Trusts primary spinal surgeon with a specialist interest in surgery of the lumbar spine and the non-operative management of spinal problems. 

He qualified as a doctor at Cambridge University and completed his post-graduate training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London. He spend 2003 doing a clinical fellowship in Australia in arthroplasty. He returned to be senior registrar to the AO President, Mr John O’Dowd at St Thomas’ Hospital. There he developed his interest in spinal surgery and the non-operative management of back pain patients which continues to this day.

He has set us a multidisciplinary back service at the North Hampshire Hospital and has developed a number of procedures which are performed there, bringing in operations such as vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, microdiscectomies, minimal access surgery and percutaneous fusions. This service also provides education and support, early access to physiotherapy and ongoing treatment and performs general spine care services.
