About Mr Raj Sahemey

Personal Profile

Mr Raj Sahemey is a highly experienced consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in hip and knee arthritis and offers a comprehensive range of tailored treatments, including both primary and complex hip and knee replacement surgery. He also has significant expertise in revision surgery and treats patients with problematic joint replacements, periprosthetic joint infection, bone loss and periprosthetic fractures. Mr Sahemey has an established NHS practice at University Hospitals Birmingham where he is the lead for complex joint replacement and periprosthetic joint infection, and receives referrals from other hospitals in the region for these challenging cases.

Alongside his clinical practice, he is actively involved in research, regularly publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting his work at national and international conferences. After graduating with a Distinction from Barts and The Royal London Medical School, Mr Sahemey completed competitive specialist orthopaedic training in the West Midlands, achieving MRCS and FRCS with the Royal College of Surgeons. He has undertaken further fellowship training at the internationally renowned ENDO-Klinik in Hamburg, and the prestigious Pelvic and Revision Arthroplasty Fellowship from the Centre for Hip Surgery at Wrightington Hospital. To date I have regularly designed, developed and led orthopaedic teaching both within the department and on a regional level. He has engaged with a GP training scheme to be their regular orthopaedic educational lead, providing workshops and seminars for their regional training programme days.

Mr Sahemey is passionate about day-case surgery and enhanced recovery including using minimally invasive joint replacement techniques. He is an active member of the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Hip Society of which he is a recognised mentor, playing a vital role in training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
