About Dr Prashantha Sambaiah
Personal Profile
Dr Sambaiah is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Woodlands Hospital in Darlington. He sees NHS and self-pay patients.
He qualified from Mysore Medical college from Southern India, which is one of the oldest medical schools in India. He completed his post-graduate medical training in Kent and Sussex Hospital and obtained a MRCP in 2005. Dr Sambaiah underwent gastroenterology training in the West Midlands and North West England. He was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist in South Tees NHS Trust, where he has been working since 2014.
He is currently the Clinical Director of the Gastroenterology service. His area of expertise, apart from general gastroenterology, involves:
- Advanced IBD management
- Therapeutic endoscopy
- Functional bowel disorders
- The treatment of colorectal polyps
He actively participates in undergraduate teaching for students at Newcastle University. Dr Sambaiah is also a post-graduate trainer for gastro-specialty trainees. He is member of various British, European and American endoscopy societies.
Dr Sambaiah is a keen cyclist and enjoys mountaineering. He has completed several cycling challenges including a cycling expedition in the Himalayas. Recently, he also completed a hike to Kilimanjaro in Africa.
