Having achieved his lifelong ambition to become a Doctor, Mr Toozs-Hobson was driven to a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. His inquisitive nature led him to take a break from clinical training to undertake a research fellowship with the world-renowned Urogynaecologist Linda Cardozo. It was during this time that he discovered his love for Urogynaecology and drive to help women with pelvic floor dysfunction. His thesis from this fellowship was into the changes to the female pelvis due to pregnancy and childbirth, and maternal childbirth injury remains one of his passions. Mr Toozs-Hobson's ongoing curiosity has driven him to be actively involved in research for over 30 years running a clinical research programme and to translate research into better understanding of conditions and as a consequence into better outcomes for women. His mantra is to provide a holistic approach which is patient centric, allowing women to choose the right treatment for themselves.
Mr Toozs-Hobson’s expertise was recognised when he was appointed as the is the founding Director of Urogynaecology and pelvic floor medicine at the Birmingham Women's Hospital. Since 2005 he has concentrated on Urogynaecology and established a RCOG recognised subspecialist training programme in Urogynaecology in the West Midlands and over the last 15 years he has trained 6 subspecialists in Urogynaecology.
He is acknowledged as a key opinion leader in many areas of the management of prolapse and urinary incontinence.
He has published over 230 articles in Urogynaecology and his current research interests include psychological impact of urinary incontinence, the impact of obesity and improving outcomes for women at risk of pre term birth. His contribution to Urogynaecology was recognised by the Department of Health and he is one of only a very few Urogynaecologists with a national silver CEA award.
In his spare time Mr Toozs-Hobson enjoys spending time walking with his wife, three grown up children and his dog, Spud.
