Philip Rosell is an orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in conditions affecting the shoulder and elbow. He has been trained in the UK and France learning advanced techniques in arthroscopy and joint replacement of the shoulder and elbow.
He has been practising as a consultant at Frimley Park Hospital since 2005 carrying out both routine and emergency procedures. Philip was born in Hampshire and moved to Farnborough in 1972.
He attended local schools in South Farnborough including the Salesian College until a family move overseas sent him to be a boarder at Dulwich College.
He went on to study medicine at Guys Hospital in London and gained an additional degree (BSc) with studies in the history of medicine and ancient history. After qualification he performed his initial medical posts in Portsmouth and at the Cambridge Military Hospital before embarking on his formal military service with the Parachute Regiment in Aldershot and Northern Ireland.
He then embarked on surgical training in the Wessex region with a period of time spent in plastic surgery in Salisbury. His orthopaedic training was carried out in Peterborough, Portsmouth, Frimley and Southampton before specialist fellowships in Grenoble and Oxford where he was trained under Professor Carr in the shoulder and elbow unit.
Philip has now completed 25 years of military service and has been on 4 operational tours of Iraq and Afghanistan where on his most recent tour he was able to act as a mentor and pass on some of the military trauma experience to more junior military surgeons. He has transferred his allegiance to the NHS from the MOD and is still employed as a consultant at Frimley Park Hospital.
Philip is experienced in carrying out joint replacements including reverse polarity shoulder replacements as well as performing revision procedures for those implants where required.
He also performs both open and arthroscopic procedures for shoulder and elbow conditions such as instability, rotator cuff disease impingement and arthritis and has been a trainer on European advanced shoulder arthroscopy courses.
Outside of work Philip has interests in travel, motorbikes and sailing and often races at Cowes.
