Mr Philip David is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Circle Health Group (Lancaster Private Hospital) and at the East Lancashire Hospitals. He specialises in cataract surgery, retinal diseases (medical and surgical management), glaucoma and general Ophthalmology. He is the Clinical Lead for Vitreo-retinal surgery at East Lancashire Hospitals.
Mr David has a longstanding interest in medical education and training and runs an internationally recognised Retinal surgical fellowship training programme at East Lancs. He receives referrals for the management of simple and complex cataracts and surgical management of complications following cataract surgery and has extensive experience in dealing with difficult and complicated cataracts. He also implants special intraocular lenses such as toric, Extended depth of focus (EDOF), multifocal (trifocal) lenses and telescopic lenses.
Mr David has a special interest in the management of retinal diseases. He provides not only medical and laser treatment for retinal disease but also complex vitreoretinal surgical treatment. He provides surgical treatments for retinal diseases such as macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachment and retinal tears. Mr David has considerable experience in dealing with medical diseases of the retina including age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular occlusion.

- Cataract Surgery: Mr David routinely performs cataract surgery and has expertise in implanting special intraocular lenses such as toric, multifocal lenses and telescopic lenses (for patients with Macular Degeneration. Mr. David specialises in dealing complex and challenging cataracts and cataract surgery. As a Vitreo-retinal surgeon he specialises in dealing with the surgical complications of failed cataract operations and receives referrals from as far afield as Preston, Lancaster, Bolton and Rochdale.
- Retinal Disorders: Mr David specialises in retinal diseases and offers both medical and surgical management of such disorders including Macular degeneration, Diabetic retinopathy, vitreous haemorrhage, retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes etc.
