Mr James re-located to Nottingham to continue his consultant career in 2000 taking up post at the City Hospital and Queens Medical Centre. He undertakes a large number of hip and knee replacement operations each year both in the NHS and privately at the Park Hospital and has developed a national and international reputation for revision and complex knee replacement. He has particular expertise and experience in high performance knee replacements for active patients and difficult revision knee surgery. He is at the forefront of knee replacement design and lectures widely on all aspects of primary and revision knee surgery around the world. He has also been invited to perform live surgery both in the UK and abroad, and is visited regularly in Nottingham by other surgeons wishing to learn his techniques.
In September 2010 he was recognised by his peers as being amongst the UK’s top knee replacement surgeons in a survey conducted by the Daily Mail(i).
The survey, which canvassed the leading knee surgeons in the UK, asked just one simple question: ‘If your own nearest and dearest were to need a knee replacement to whom would you refer them?’ The surgeons named Mr James as being in the country’s top ten.
In the Daily Mail article that announced the survey, fellow surgeons said the following of Mr James: “Top-notch knee replacement surgeon who is approachable and puts people at ease. Immerses himself in his specialty. He's published his results with hundreds of patients, which shows he's keen to share what he's discovered with fellow surgeons. It's also a sign to patients this is his passion, not simply his career.”
