Mr Drymousis is a Consultant in General and Emergency Surgery at Whittington Hospital NHS Trust in North London.
He graduated from the University of Athens, Medical School. Following compulsory military service he started training in Hippocration Hospital in Athens, Greece which is one of the University Hospitals of the Medical School of Athens. He trained in General and Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic (HPB) surgery.
On completion of training in Greece, he pursued further training in HPB surgery in the UK and he was appointed as a Senior Clinical Fellow in HPB Surgery at Hammersmith Hospital in London a post he held for two years. At the same time he completed his PhD on complex upper gastrointestinal surgeries and management of complications and he supported his thesis. He was awarded his PhD with honours from the University of Athens.
Following that, he successfully applied for a Marie Curie European Scholarship for higher training and research in HPB and Neuroendocrine Surgery. Marie Sklodowska- Curie actions are one of the most prestigious awards available in Europe and they are the European union’s reference programme for education and training at post-doctoral level. He was supported on his application by Imperial College London.
His surgical practice covers diagnosis and treatment of dyspepsia symptoms, gallstone disease, biliary pathology, and all types of hernia surgery open and laparoscopic. He leads the rapid access clinic at the Whittington, an ambulatory care pathway that minimises the time from diagnosis to treatment, reduces hospital stay and improves patient experience.
He is committed in training of junior doctors and surgeons and participates regularly as a faculty member in training days and hands-on courses organised by the Royal College of Surgeons or other Surgical/academic societies. He is also a member of the faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons Intermediate Laparoscopic Skills Course and of the Basic Surgical Skills Course.
He is the lead for Get It Right First Time (GIRFT) for North and Central London and core member of the Pan-London Regional Clinical Reference Group for elective post-Covid Recovery of General Surgery.
He publishes actively to date and has presented his work in national and international meetings and has been invited to give lectures in high profile scientific meetings.
