About Owain Ennis

Personal Profile

Owain Ennis is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon currently working in West Wales General, Carmarthen and Prince Phillip Hospital, Llanelli. 

Owain is originally from North Pembrokeshire and is a fluent Welsh speaker. After graduating from the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff in 1998 he carried out his basic surgical training posts throughout South Wales.

He undertook his Higher Surgical Training in the West Midlands at the renowned Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital, Oswestry and North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary, Stoke. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2007.

During his training, he developed a specialist interest in conditions of the upper limb, and soft tissue reconstruction of the knee. He performs most of his surgery through arthroscopic techniques but also performs some open surgery such as shoulder replacement. He also has an interest in complex trauma of both upper and lower limb.

Owain has published numerous scientific articles in general orthopaedics as well as in his areas of specialist interest and maintains an active role in publishing further research. 

He remains committed to developing new techniques to ensure his practice keeps pace with the most recent developments in his field. He continues to be active in under graduate and post graduate training and is a faculty member of the AO group.

Owain’s main interests are all aspects of shoulder surgery and he performs most of his surgery using arthroscopic techniques including rotator cuff repair, capsular release, subacromial decompression and joint stabilisation. He also performs shoulder replacement surgery for arthritis including Total Shoulder and Reverse Polarity replacement. In addition to his interests in shoulder surgery he has an interest in arthroscopic surgery of the knee including anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
