About Mr Omar Hilmi

Personal Profile

Mr Hilmi qualified from Dundee University in 1993 and completed his basic surgical training on the Tayside Basic Surgical Training Scheme. He went on to complete his specialist training in ENT on the East of Scotland Training Scheme and was appointed as a Consultant in Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 2005. 

Mr Hilmi has Honorary Appointments in both Glasgow and Edinburgh University and is the Co-Module Lead on the Masters Degree training programme for General Surgeons in Endocrine Surgery for RCSEd and Edinburgh University. Mr Hilmi is the Treasurer for the British Association of Thyroid and Endocrine Surgeons (BAETS) and Ex Chairman of the Speciality Advisory Board of the RCSEd, and he is also the organiser of training courses on the Surgical Management of thyroid cancer. He is on the faculty of Emergency Safe courses for ENT surgeons and Advanced Airway courses and is also an examiner for the Intercalated FRCS Exam in Otolaryngology.

Mr Hilmi is a former Sub Editor of Clinical Otolaryngology, a major UK ENT journal, and is currently the Sub Editor of the Journal of Laryngology and Otology and The Surgeon Journal.
