About Mr Nicola de Liguori Carino

Personal Profile

Mr de'Liguori Carino completed his surgical training in Italy in 2005, including a period at Ohio University Hospital in Columbus, USA. He then undertook four years of advanced training in hepatobiliary and pancreatic (HPB) and transplant surgery at the Universities of Liverpool and Leeds, before being appointed Consultant HPB and General Surgeon in Manchester in 2009.

He specialises in laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic HPB surgery and works within one of the busiest HPB units in Europe. As Clinical Lead of the HPB Unit at Manchester Royal Infirmary, he oversees the delivery of state-of-the-art care to a population of more than 3.5 million across the North West of England, with referrals also received nationally and internationally.

Mr de'Liguori Carino is widely recognised for his expertise in complex liver, pancreas, biliary tract, and gallbladder surgery. His skills include advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques as well as pioneering use of Irreversible Electroporation (IRE – Nanoknife). He played a key role in establishing this treatment in the UK, and his unit remains among the few centres nationwide to offer it.

On top of his HPB practice, he has an extensive surgical practice in the treatment of abdominal wall hernias (inguinal, umbilical, femoral, Spigelian, and incisional), using both minimally invasive keyhole and robotic techniques.
