In his NHS practice he undertakes general clinics at Lincoln County Hospital, Louth County Hospital, and the John Coupland Hospital in Gainsborough.
He operates to remove skin cancers including a specific operating session for patients who need more complex surgical procedures. He undertakes a clinic for all patients receiving the new biological treatments for psoriasis in Lincolnshire, and oversees the phototherapy clinic in Lincolnshire. He is a core member of the Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team.
Dr Hepburn trained in Medicine at St. Andrews University (BSc (Hons) 1981) and Manchester University (MBChB (Hons) 1984). He trained in Dermatology at The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He was awarded the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Edinburgh University in 1994 for research into cutaneous leishmaniasis.
Dr Hepburn trained in General Medicine prior to specialising in Dermatology, so he has a full understanding of how skin disease impacts on the body. He has written a book about how examining the skin can reveal internal diseases.
Dr Hepburn served in the Royal Army Medical Corps around the world including the UK, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Angola. He is an enthusiastic teacher of dermatologists, general practitioners and nurses. He has widely published many teaching articles and practice guidelines. His research interests are around improving the results of treatment for patients.
