About Mr Neil Fairbairn

Personal Profile

Mr Neil Fairbairn is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon based at the Canniesburn Unit in Glasgow. He is Plastic Surgery Clinical Lead for Orthoplastic Limb Reconstruction at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and he also has additional subspecialty interests in sarcoma, perineal reconstruction, skin cancer and hand surgery.

Mr Fairbairn's private practice interests include cosmetic breast surgery, facial aesthetics, body contouring, skin cancer and hand surgery.

Mr Fairbairn has a strong academic background, completing a research fellowship at the prestigious Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This research investigated novel techniques for peripheral nerve repair and developed strategies for upper limb reanimation following spinal cord injury. He has multiple clinical and scientific publications in leading, peer-reviewed plastic surgery journals and is a regular reviewer for the Journal of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. 

Following on from Mr Fairbairn's plastic surgery training in Scotland, he received accredited interface fellowship training in hand surgery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, and completed a reconstructive microsurgery fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia. He is on the specialist register for plastic surgery, is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow, and is a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons.
