About Mr Naveed Kara

Personal Profile

Please note: Mr Kara does not treat anyone under the age of 18 at Woodlands Hospital.

Mr Nav Kara is a Consultant ENT Surgeon practicing at Woodlands Hospital in Darlington. He welcomes both NHS and self-pay patients.

He sees patients from across County Durham, North Yorkshire and from as far as Cumbria. He graduated from The University of Aberdeen, undertaking his further ENT training across Scotland and the North of England. He has been practicing exclusively in ENT since 2005.

Mr Kara is a full-time Consultant ENT Surgeon at County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust Hospitals. He provides a general ear, nose and throat service and offers consultations and operations for a wide range of adult and children's ENT conditions (he does not treat children at Woodlands Hospital). Many ENT conditions can be successfully managed with medical treatment and outpatient procedures, without the need for surgery. He works closely with private audiologists, balance therapists and speech & language therapists to provide a full spectrum of care.

He has a sub-specialty interest in nasal conditions and is the 'Lead Rhinologist' in his department where he deals with:

  • Allergies
  • Complex/revision sinus surgery
  • Nasal polyps
  • Nasal blockage/deformity due to trauma
  • Deviated nasal septums

He also conducts dedicated paediatric clinics in the Trust, focusing predominantly on common childhood problems such as hearing loss, tonsillitis and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).

Having previously held posts both as 'Departmental Clinical Lead' and 'Clinical Governance Lead', Mr Kara is enthusiastic about adopting innovative techniques to improve the patient experience. He maintains a strong focus on patient safety and is a firm believer that this can only be achieved through open and honest communication with patients. He ensures that patients fully understand their condition and the proposed treatment options available to them, and finds that patients who are better informed throughout the process tend to experience better surgical outcomes.

Mr Kara provides weekly clinics at Woodlands Hospital, and is happy to arrange remote consultations for patients where necessary. He also offers outpatient procedures such as nasal endoscopy, wax removal and nasal cautery.
