About Mr Mohammed Sufian Miah

Personal Profile

Mr Miah grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne and qualified in Medicine from the University of Dundee Medical School in 2003.

He completed Basic Surgical Training in the North West region (Liverpool and Blackpool) and gained experience in cardiothoracic surgery, organ transplantation, general, colorectal and vascular surgery, trauma and orthopaedics, neurosurgery and ear, nose and throat surgery (ENT).

He gained his experience and expertise in Adult and Paediatric ENT surgery through his Specialist Surgical Training in Scotland and Yorkshire. This included a good grounding on all aspects of ENT-Head and Neck surgery, including skull base and facial plastic surgery. Whilst in Dundee, he had the opportunity to work with the Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons which furthered his experience in facial plastic surgery and head and neck oncology. Halfway through Specialist Training, Mr Miah moved to Yorkshire on an inter-deanery transfer and developed sub-specialty interest in otology/hearing implantations and paediatric ENT through his experience in Leeds General Infirmary and Yorkshire Auditory Implant Centre.

Immediately after completion of specialist training in 2015, he was appointed as a Consultant ENT Surgeon in Manchester. He is part of the Bone-Conduction Hearing Implant team.

He very much enjoys teaching and training, and has been involved with teaching since he was a medical student through the Peer Tutoring programme at the University of Dundee Medical School. As a qualified doctor, he continued with his teaching ventures and over the years has taught medical/dental/nursing students, doctors and other healthcare professionals. As a consultant, he continues to teach undergraduate students and doctors of all levels including specialist ENT surgical trainees.

Besides his clinical roles and activities, Mr Miah is actively involved in research into ENT conditions, especially ear disorders in adults and children. He has published widely in peer-reviewed national and international journals and also has written 2 book chapters.
