About Mr Mohammed El-Haddad

Personal Profile

Mr El-Haddad is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon with specialist expertise in minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. He brings extensive training across some of the UK's leading surgical centres, complemented by advanced robotic surgery training reflecting his commitment to offering patients the most technically refined approaches available.

Mr El-Haddad qualified from Ain Shams University in Cairo in 2002 and relocated to the United Kingdom in 2005, beginning his surgical training in his birthplace Glasgow. He subsequently undertook a dedicated research fellowship in Leeds investigating the early lymphatic spread of colorectal cancer, before completing senior clinical fellowship posts in colorectal and pancreatic surgery at St James's University Hospital; one of the UK's foremost hepatobiliary and colorectal centres.

Returning to Glasgow in 2018, Mr El-Haddad entered the West of Scotland national higher surgical training programme, where he spent six years deepening his skills across pancreatic, upper gastrointestinal, and colorectal surgery. Minimally invasive colorectal surgery became his chosen subspecialty focus during this period.

To further develop his robotic surgery capabilities, Mr El-Haddad joined Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary in 2024 as a locum consultant and robotic surgery fellow in colorectal surgery. There he performed major bowel resections for colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease using the DaVinci Xi system, while also providing consultant-level on-call cover for emergency surgery and major trauma.

In May 2025, Mr El-Haddad was appointed Consultant in General and Colorectal Surgery at Harrogate District Hospital. Alongside his clinical practice, he sits on the multidisciplinary team panels for colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and complex colonic polyps ensuring that patients benefit from fully joined-up specialist care across the wider healthcare system.
