About Mohamed Bekheit

Personal Profile

Mr Bekheit qualified from the University of Alexandria where he commenced his surgical training earlier than most. Over the following years, he spent tens of thousands of hours in the operating room. Mentored by the world-renowned pioneer surgeons in every organ of the digestive system culminating in the highest skillset in minimally invasive surgery, Mr Bekheit’s techniques were commended by international experts. He is the author of 3 ports and stapleless laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. He selectively performed Bikini line laparoscopic appendectomy since 2010, where all scars are hidden. Following his years of higher training in Italy and France, Mr Bekheit settled in the UK and was first appointed by NHS Grampian in 2016.

Mr Bekheit provides his clinical services in multiple countries and provides advisory services for a few centres. In his current UK posts, Mr Bekheit includes treatment for a wide range of cancerous and non-cancerous conditions for whom he obtains excellent outcomes including the most complex liver and gall bladder surgery. 

Mr Bekheit has contributed, either as a primary surgeon or in other roles, to over 7000 operations. This included over 1000 Bariatric operations. He regularly audits his clinical practice and demonstrates low morbidity and mortality from his practice.

As an aspiring academic surgeon, Mr Bekheit was awarded so far 8 postgraduate qualifications including a master's in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, a master's in Bariatric surgery, and a PhD in liver surgery. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. He is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and a guest speaker at international conferences. Mr Bekheit was awarded research grant funding from prestigious academic institutes and commercial partners. Mr Bekheit and his team were awarded prestigious national prizes. Mr Bekheit is an examiner court member of the Royal College of Surgeons where he aids in the assessment of future surgeons from around the world.

Treatment for liver and pancreatic cancer is not carried out at Albyn Hospital, however Mr Bekheit is able to offer consultations for these conditions.
