Personal Profile

Dr Michelle Oswal is a Consultant Neurologist and the Clinical Lead for the Headache Service at Hillingdon Hospital in North West London.

She undertook her medical degree at University College London. She further obtained an undergraduate bachelor of science degree in Neuroscience. She completed her foundation and core medical training in London, resulting in her achievement of the MRCP in 2011. 

Following her general medical training, Dr Oswal undertook a Phd at the UCL Insititute of Neurology funded by the MRC-Wellcome Trust and further post doctoral research at the University of Oxford. Dr Oswal completed her specialist training in clinical neurology in Birmingham, Oxford and London. Throughout her training, she developed a keen interest in general neurology as well as managing headache disorders, ultimately leading her to assume her first consultant position in 2023. In 2023, she joined the complex headache service at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. In this post, she gained expertise and training in managing complex headache, facial pain and other neurological disorders. Dr Oswal has subsequently led the development of a specialist headache service at Hillingdon treating patients across the North West London sector. She has also gained experience managing acute and chronic neurological disorders at a busy district general hospital running rapid access neurology hot clinics, reviewing ward patients and managing outpatient clinics. 

Dr Oswal has particular experience and expertise in managing headache and facial pain. She has trained in advanced headache treatments such as botox and local nerve blocks. She is able to offer the latest available treatment for headache including CGRP monoclonal antibody therapy, gepants, wearable medical devices and botox therapy. Dr Oswal also has an interest in managing headaches before and during the menopause. 

Dr Oswal regularly keeps up to date with advances in general neurology and headache management and has presented at various national medical conferences and teaching courses.

Since becoming a Consultant, Dr Oswal has worked on updating local headache guidelines as well as education and training of medical colleagues to facilitate the management of headaches in both primary and secondary care. Michelle is the lead for the neurology teaching programme for Imperial College medical students at Hillingdon.
