About Michael Wood

Personal Profile

Dr Michael Wood has wide experience of respiratory disease. He trained at specialist centres within London and undertook research at University College London to obtain is PhD. After completing his training in the UK he gained further experience of interventional bronchoscopy whilst working in Australia for 14 months. He has been a Respiratory Consultant at Ashford and St Peter's Hospital since 2006, where he has held a number of additional roles including Clinical Lead for Respiratory Medicine and Divisional Director for Medicine. He introduced endobronchial ultrasound techniques to St Peter’s hospital, as one of the first DGHs in the UK to perform this investigation, in 2009.

He is an accredited Respiratory Specialist for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for whom he conducts respiratory assessments for professional pilot’s applying for their Class 1 pilot’s licences.He is also currently the Medical Director for CSH Surrey, a major community provider for Healthcare in Surrey, where his role is to provide medical leadership for the organisation. He is the Deputy Head of School for postgraduate Medicine for Health Education England in Kent, Surrey and Sussex, responsible for the internal medical training of junior doctors across the region with oversight of over three hundred trainees.

He has extensive experience in treated respiratory diseases including cough, asthma, COPD, lung cancer diagnosis, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, infectious lung disease including bronchiectasis and sleep apnoea.
