About Mr Michael Parry

Personal Profile

Mr Michael Parry is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in lower limb surgery, including joint replacement and orthopaedic oncology. He provides expert care for patients with complex bone and joint conditions, combining advanced surgical techniques with a strong focus on patient outcomes and recovery.

Mr Parry completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Bristol, qualifying in 2001. During his studies, he also completed an intercalated Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Anatomy, providing a strong scientific foundation for his future surgical career.

He began his specialist surgical training in Oxford and the South East of England before returning to Bristol to complete his higher surgical training in orthopaedics.

In 2012, Mr Parry was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine (MD) for his research into the effects of wear debris released by hip replacements. This research contributed to a better understanding of how joint replacement materials interact with the body over time.

He was also appointed as an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Bristol, where he combined clinical work with teaching and academic research. In this role, he contributed to the training of future orthopaedic surgeons and continued to develop his academic expertise.

To further advance his surgical skills, Mr Parry completed fellowship training in two specialist areas of orthopaedics.

He undertook lower limb arthroplasty fellowship training at the University of British Columbia Hospital, gaining advanced experience in hip and knee replacement surgery.

He also completed orthopaedic oncology fellowship training at the internationally recognised Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, working within the specialist oncology service treating bone and soft tissue tumours.

Mr Parry was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham in 2014. Since then, he has developed a busy clinical practice specialising in lower limb surgery and orthopaedic oncology.

His work includes the assessment and treatment of patients requiring joint replacement surgery as well as those with complex bone and soft tissue conditions.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Parry is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Aston University. He remains actively involved in teaching and training medical students and orthopaedic trainees, supporting the development of the next generation of surgeons.

Mr Parry is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based orthopaedic care. He focuses on clear communication, accurate diagnosis, and personalised treatment plans to help patients regain mobility, reduce pain, and improve their quality of life.
