Dr. Michael Kuehl is a Consultant Cardiologist at Meriden Hospital and at The University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW), where he has been a leading figure in cardiac care since 2018. He is widely recognized for his expertise in heart failure management, cardiac device therapy, and digital health innovation. Over the past five years, Dr. Kuehl has consistently been the highest-volume device implanter at UHCW, reflecting his procedural excellence and commitment to patient care.
Dr. Kuehl graduated from the University of Jena in Germany in 2002 and earned a PhD (Dr. med.) in cell biology. His specialist cardiology training included posts at the Heart Centre Leipzig, Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, and the West Midlands Cardiology SpR rotation, providing him with a broad and in-depth foundation in cardiovascular medicine.
He later pursued postgraduate research at the University of Birmingham, where he studied cardiac energetics in patients with type 2 diabetes. His academic interests have included heart transplant immunotherapy, cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) optimization, and the integration of digital tools into heart failure care pathways.
Dr. Kuehl holds the title of Honorary Associate Clinical Professor of Cardiology at the University of Warwick, where he contributes to medical education and research. He supervises postgraduate projects and mentors junior doctors, playing a key role in shaping future cardiology specialists.
As the West Midlands Cardiac Network Lead for Heart Failure, Dr. Kuehl oversees regional strategies to improve heart failure outcomes. He is particularly focused on multidisciplinary care models and the use of remote monitoring technologies to enhance clinical efficiency and patient engagement.
At St Cross Hospital in Rugby, Dr. Kuehl leads heart failure services, ensuring continuity of care and access to advanced therapies for patients in the region.
