About Dr Maryam Akbari

Personal Profile

Dr Akbari is a highly accomplished and dedicated General Practitioner with a passion for delivering exceptional patient care. She graduated from Medical School in 2002 with a First Class and Distinction degree, demonstrating her commitment to excellence from the very start of her career. She completed her GP training through the Kingston GP Training Scheme, earning her membership with the Royal College of General Practitioners in April 2013.

Throughout her career, Dr Akbari has gained a broad and varied range of clinical experiences. She has worked in some of the most renowned medical institutions, including a year in Cardiothoracic Surgery at The Royal Brompton Hospital, and in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Royal Free Hospital. Her extensive experience also includes roles in Geriatric Medicine, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Accident and Emergency at Ealing Hospital, and ENT at West Middlesex Hospital. Dr Akbari also holds a BSc degree in Diagnostic Radiology, further enhancing her diagnostic skills and equipping her with a comprehensive understanding of both acute and chronic conditions.

Since 2013, Dr Akbari has been working full-time as an NHS GP in London. In 2020, she expanded her practice to include private GP services at Syon Clinic, where she continues to deliver care of the highest standards. Dr Akbari has held various roles within scheduled in-hour settings, community practices, unscheduled out-of-hours services, urgent care centres, and NHS 111.

During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Akbari was one of the pioneering GPs who played a critical role in supporting NHS 111 services. Her experience in telephone and video consultations has allowed her to continue providing high-quality and safe care, adapting seamlessly to the evolving needs of her patients.

Dr Akbari firmly believes that medicine is not just a science but an art, especially in general practice, where she skilfully balances clinical protocols with the delicate nature of human emotions. She is deeply committed to her patients’ well-being, emphasising the importance of holistic care that considers both the physical and emotional aspects of health.

With special interests in Mental Health, Women’s Health, Diabetes, Paediatrics, Health Promotion, and Disease Prevention, Dr Akbari is dedicated to helping her patients achieve optimal health and happiness. She takes pride in promoting a balanced approach to health, focusing on the interplay of physical, mental, and social factors. Dr Akbari views her role not just as a physician but as a partner in her patients’ health journeys, guiding them toward their best possible state of well-being.
