Mark's practice encompasses all areas of adult and adolescent foot and ankle surgery, in which he is closely supported by podiatry, physiotherapy and orthotist colleagues at the clinic.
At the Foot and Ankle Clinic Mark uses only modern techniques for bunion surgery (Hallux Valgus) such as the Scarf osteotomy. The scarf osteotomy has one of the highest success rates, allows immediate weight bearing and minimises postoperative pain. With the scarf operation for bunion surgery one can be back to work within a few days. He treats big toe arthritis (Hallux rigidus) using big toe arthroscopy, big toe fusion and big toe replacement.
Mr Herron also runs a busy sport injuries practice regularly treating professional footballers, dancers and athletes as well as many social sports enthusiasts. Ankle arthroscopy, ankle ligament reconstruction and Achilles tendon operations are commonly used in the management of these conditions.
Ankle fusions and ankle replacements are both regularly performed at the clinic by Mark Herron. Ankle Fusions are generally performed using arthroscopic ankle fusion. This allows immediate weight bearing post operatively significantly reduces pain and achieves the highest union rates of any technique. Ankle replacements are performed using the Mobility ankle replacement. Mark Herron and his team understand there is often a delicate balance to be struck between function, pain relief and aesthetics.
Mark is also part of The Midland Orthopaedic Practice.
