About Dr Marc Aitken

Personal Profile

Dr Marc Aitken is a Consultant Rheumatologist who specialises in managing painful conditions of the bones, joints, and soft tissues.

Dr Aitken graduated in Medicine from the University of Edinburgh in 2009. After a period of post-graduate training in Lothian and Greater Manchester, he returned to Scotland in 2015 and trained in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine in Glasgow. He was appointed as a Consultant Rheumatologist at the Centre for Rheumatic Disease at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 2020.

A keen educator, Dr Aitken has authored a staple undergraduate textbook in Rheumatology, as well as contributing to other textbooks and peer-reviewed articles within Rheumatology.

Dr Aitken’s clinical practice covers a wide variety of Rheumatological conditions including inflammatory arthritis, back problems and connective tissue disease. He co-manages a large cohort of Psoriatic Arthritis patients, with close links to academic colleagues at the University of Glasgow.
