Mr Manoj Kumar is a highly experienced Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon, specialising in the treatment of gallstone disease, gastro oesophageal reflux disease  (heartburn or dyspepsia), and hernias, including inguinal and complex abdominal wall hernias.

Surgical Expertise

He is highly experienced in performing minimally invasive (keyhole or laparoscopic) surgeries for: 

  • Gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy)
  • Surgery for acid reflux (laparoscopic fundoplication)
  • Hernia repairs
  • Abdominal wall reconstruction

Mr Kumar also provides expert care for a range of gastrointestinal issues. In addition to complex surgery, Mr Kumar performs minor procedures for lipoma and cyst removal.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Kumar plays a key role in surgical education, improving patient safety, and healthcare improvement. He holds several positions, including:
  • Examiner for the Intercollegiate Specialty Board in General Surgery (FRCS)

  • National Clinical Lead for the Team-Based Quality Review Programme at NHS Education Scotland

  • Honorary Clinical Tutor at the University of Edinburgh

He holds a Master’s degree in Patient Safety with a focus on Human Factors from the University of Aberdeen and completed the prestigious Scottish Quality and Safety Fellowship.

Since 2014, Mr Kumar has been an ambassador for the Clinical Human Factors Group and is a recognised advocate for incorporating human factors into healthcare systems. He has also contributed to various national committees such as:
