He is a very experienced cataract surgeon and has performed over 6000 cataract operations. He is committed to excellence in practise and continually audits his surgery, which is currently 6 times safer than the national average for cataract surgery (last updated 07/02/24, based on 6552 consecutive cases).
He is a Regional Expert in minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS) and non surgical laser treatments for glaucoma (SLT). He has performed more iStent procedures for the treatment of glaucoma than any other surgeon in Scotland, and is one of the most experienced surgeons in the UK in this technique.
His previous research work has been awarded prizes at national level by professional organisations such as the UKEGS and the SOC.
He has an interest in teaching and is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer with the University of Glasgow Medical School where he is in charge of the teaching programme for South Glasgow. Mr Rahman is also an official Examiner for the FRCS (Ophthalmology) examinations. A Dundonian by birth, he completed his undergraduate training at Edinburgh Medical School. His ophthalmic training was undertaken at the Internationally respected Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology in Glasgow during which time he was the recipient of the Pfizer Ophthalmology Medal. He has also broadened his knowledge with training in famous institutions such as the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, U.S.A.
