I have worked as a Consultant Haematologist for the past 14 years across various NHS hospitals and currently hold a substantive Consultant Haematologist position at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. During this time, I have developed extensive experience in the diagnosis, investigation and management of a wide range of malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions.
My clinical practice is guided by evidence-based medicine, careful clinical assessment and a patient-centred approach. I believe in providing clear explanations, discussing investigation results and treatment options thoroughly, and involving patients in decisions about their care. I place considerable importance on timely communication with referring clinicians and effective multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure that patients receive appropriate, coordinated and high-quality treatment.
Alongside my clinical responsibilities, I am passionate about education and professional development. I am actively involved in teaching medical students, resident doctors, postgraduate trainees and nursing staff. I regard education, mentoring and the sharing of clinical knowledge as essential to maintaining high standards of practice and improving patient outcomes. I also maintain my professional knowledge through attendance at national and international haematology conferences and ongoing engagement with developments in the specialty.
My commitment to clinical leadership, teamwork and patient experience has been recognised through several nominations andcommendations at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. These include being a finalist for the Inspiring Leader award at the 2018 Staff Achievement Awards, a nomination for the Unsung Hero award, and three nominations for the Trust’s WOW Awards scheme by patients and nursing staff. I value these recognitions as an encouragement to continue delivering compassionate care and supporting colleagues across the healthcare team.
I am committed to delivering a high standard of consultant-led haematology care, ensuring that every patient is treated with dignity, compassion and respect.
My clinical expertise encompasses haematological malignancies, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma; thrombotic disorders; bleeding and coagulation disorders; unexplained or abnormal blood counts; and myeloproliferative neoplasms. I also have considerable experience in managing immune-mediated haematological conditions, including immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, as well as iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency and haemoglobinopathies, including sickle cell disease and thalassaemia.
I am experienced in providing peri-operative haematology advice to support the safe management of patients undergoing surgical procedures.
This includes pre-operative assessment and optimisation of blood counts, evaluation and management of bleeding and thrombotic risks, and advice on anticoagulation management, including peri-operative interruption and bridging therapy where clinically indicated.
I recognise the importance of individualised risk assessment and close collaboration with surgical, anaesthetic and other medical teams to minimise complications and facilitate safe patient care.
