About Ms Lucy Lowe

Personal Profile

Lucy is a Specialist Physiotherapists with a keen interest and extensive knowledge and experience in rehabilitating both acute and chronic hand and wrist injuries. Lucy developed this specialism whilst working in London where she worked as a specialist Hand Therapist in a number of major teaching hospitals. Here she was able to hone her skills and develop a greater appreciation for the importance of the hand in both everyday life and activity and gain a greater understanding of the importance of hand therapy in rehabilitation of the hand and wrist when this goes wrong.

As a result of this experience, Lucy was able to assess, diagnose and treat many hand and wrist conditions. These included long term hand and wrist conditions such as:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • DeQuervains
  • Trigger finger
  • Work related upper limb disorders
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Hypermobility
  • Carpal Tunnel

During this time, Lucy also gained experience in more acute hand and wrist injuries working alongside orthopaedic, plastic, rheumatology and paediatric consultants. This included those needing conservative management with bespoke protective splinting and exercise plans such as:

  • Soft tissue sprains to fingers, thumbs and wrists
  • Fractures
  • Mallet finger
  • Tendon irritation such as tennis elbow or acute DeQuervains

Lucy has extensive experience in the treatment of post-operative hand and wrist surgeries, ensuring excellent team work between herself, the surgeon and also the wider team of dressing nurses to ensure excellent patient outcomes. Lucy is able to fabricate bespoke splints to protect the surgery as well as commence an appropriate exercise programme that allows you to achieve your goals.

Post-op surgeries include:

  • Tendon repairs
  • Ligament repairs
  • Nerve repairs
  • Carpal Tunnel release
  • Cubital Tunnel release
  • Fractures (hand or wrist)
  • Wrist stabilitations

Lucy moved to Dorchester in 2022 to pursue her love of the outdoors as well as continuing her passion for Hand Therapy at the Winterbourne. She has a passion for helping others to achieve their goals and understands how important our hands are for everything we do! She is supported by an excellent team of Physiotherapists, nurses and surgeons to ensure the best results and outcomes for her patients are achieved.
