Dr Lindsey Thomas is an experienced GP of 17 years, with a specialist interest in the perimenopause, menopause and all aspects of women's health.
She qualified from the University of Sheffield in 2000, and then went on to complete her GP training, including training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and for the last 11 years has worked at Porterbrook Medical Centre.
Alongside this, Dr Thomas works in the NHS menopause service in Leeds seeing complex referrals, including women with a history of cancer and women with primary ovarian insufficiency.
Dr Thomas has completed advanced training in the menopause and has the British Menopause Society Advanced Certificate, making her one of only 240 registered specialists in the UK. This makes her able to provide help and advice to women who may be struggling with more complicated menopausal issues, including their medical history or difficulty finding a management plan which is working for them.
Dr Thomas is keen to improve the overall experience of this stage of life, in terms of symptoms and long-term health benefits. She believes good quality care should be evidence based and holistic, supporting women to make informed choices about treatments alongside an understanding of the importance of lifestyle choices.
She has a background in education and is a menopause trainer with both the British Menopause Society and the Faculty of Reproductive and Sexual Health, helping other clinicians further their knowledge of women's health.
She sits on the board of the Primary Care Women's Health Forum (PCWHF) and the Primary Care Women's Health Society, which provides reliable evidence-based resources and teaching for primary care clinicians, as well as a patient resource 'Rock My Menopause'.
Dr Thomas has had academic work published in the Post Reproductive Health Journal, is a contributor to QVC's 'Menopause Your Way' programme, and provides regular educational and support sessions to Trekstock - a charity for young adults with cancer.
She is committed to raising awareness and improving women's health and menopause care, and regularly provides educational talks on perimenopause and menopause to both the general public, and also in a corporate setting, helping organisations become 'menopause friendly'.
Dr Thomas' private work is done as part of Myla Health, a women's health clinic which helps women take control of their health: www.mylahealth.co.uk
Dr Thomas came to Sheffield for university and like lots of others, never left - having lived here for nearly 30 years. She lives with her husband and 2 boys, and her labradoodle, Tess. In her free time she enjoys running, yoga, netball, and catching up with her friends.
She understands fully the stresses and juggles of being a midlife woman.
