About Laurence Glancz

Personal Profile

Mr Glancz was appointed as a substantive Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Queen's Medical Centre (QMC), Nottingham, in March 2023. He is nationally recognised for his expertise in skull base surgery through his appointment to the national skull base chordoma and chondrosarcoma multidisciplinary team (MDT) and his recognition by the Chordoma Foundation as one of only four UK neurosurgery experts in the management of skull base chordoma. He is currently the only UK consultant neurosurgeon who is a member of the North American Skull Base Society. He is the Regional Lead for Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery for the East Midlands and is one of only two neurosurgeons in the region providing vestibular schwannoma and pituitary surgery.

His NHS practice at Queen's Medical Centre focuses on the highly specialised management of patients with complex and often rare tumours and abnormalities affecting the skull base, brain, orbit, pituitary gland and craniovertebral junction. Mr Glancz employs the latest minimally invasive endoscopic techniques alongside traditional microsurgical approaches, tailoring the surgical strategy to each patient's individual condition. He also has a specialist interest in neurovascular compression syndromes, particularly hemifacial spasm and trigeminal neuralgia, together with a complementary general neurosurgical practice that includes the management of degenerative spinal disorders.

Mr Glancz trained in London, Nottingham and Manchester, including completion of the Royal College of Surgeons-approved Neuro-oncology Fellowship in Nottingham and the Manchester Skull Base Fellowship, providing dual fellowship training in complex cranial tumour and skull base surgery. Throughout his career he has received more than 30 awards, the majority at national level, recognising his clinical, academic and research achievements.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Glancz maintains a strong academic profile, having authored more than 40 publications and delivered numerous presentations at national and international scientific meetings. Within six months of his consultant appointment he was awarded an Honorary Assistant Professorship at the University of Nottingham in recognition of his academic contributions.
Mr Glancz accepts referrals from consultants, GPs and patients throughout the UK for skull base, pituitary and cranial nerve disorders, together with vestibular schwannomas and selected complex cranial conditions within his areas of specialist expertise. He also provides specialist second opinions for these conditions, offering expert assessment and personalised treatment recommendations.
