About Mr Kirti Jasani

Personal Profile

Mr Jasani is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Cataract and Vitreoretinal Surgery, with the guiding principle of his clinical and surgical practice being: "I understand the value of sight in the life of every patient and hence I offer each patient excellent care with compassion".

He completed his graduation from The University of Manchester and undertook specialty training in Ophthalmology at the North Western Deanery, primarily based at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.

He then went on to do a Gene Therapy research fellowship with Professor Robert MacLaren at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Oxford, working on gene therapy projects both in Oxford Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

In addition, Mr Jasani has undertaken 2 years of sub-specialty fellowships in Medical and Vitreoretinal Surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. He is also a Senior Lecturer at The University of Manchester Medical School.

Mr Jasani's surgical expertise lies in both routine and complex cataract surgery, with special focus on all vitreoretinal procedures. This includes the treatment of retinal detachments, macula holes, epiretinal membranes as well as age-related macula degeneration, floaters and complex diabetic eye diseases. He specialises in the use of the latest micro-incisional vitreoretinal techniques such as: 23, 25 and 27G Pars Plana Vitrectomy, surgery for complex retinal detachments, bimanual surgery for changes caused by severe diabetic retinopathy in the eye, and insertion of secondary intraocular lenses.

Mr Jasani offers a comprehensive assessment to ascertain the underlying cause and subsequent management in relation to all aspects of general ophthalmology, medical and surgical retina.

He is instrumental in training fellows and junior surgeons from around the world in vitreoretinal surgery. Having learned various surgical techniques for dealing with cataracts in the developing world, he has performed many surgeries in various charitable institutions in countries such as India and Cambodia. In addition to 20 peer-reviewed publications in ophthalmic journals, Mr Jasani has presented at various national and international ophthalmology meetings, including the UK, United States, Europe and Asia.

Mr Jasani is also fluent in a number of languages including: English, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Malay and Bahasa Indonesia.
