Miss Laughlan qualified from Leicester Warwick Medical School with Honours in 2004. Her surgical training was undertaken in Yorkshire, predominantly based in Leeds, York, and Bradford.

She completed an MSc in Medical Education at Cardiff University in 2012 and was awarded Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, reflecting her commitment to both undergraduate and post-graduate medical education.

From 2012-2014 she was a Lecturer in Surgery at Hull York Medical School.

In 2014, Miss Laughlan was awarded Master of Surgery at the University of Edinburgh after completing a two-year research degree focusing on the optimisation of bariatric surgical patients.

She is the Lead Clinician for surgery at Harrogate and District Foundation Trust and has a commitment to deliver quality surgical care for the local population.

In her spare time, Miss Laughlan enjoys a range of sports including cycling, horse riding, and skiing. She is a keen runner, having completed several half marathons and most recently the London Marathon. She values her family time and enjoys walking her cockapoo in the North York Moors.
