About Mr Kieran Paul Jefferson

Personal Profile

Mr Jefferson has been a Consultant Urological Surgeon at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) since 2006. He trained in medicine at Cambridge and Oxford, representing Oxford as an oarsman, and subsequently lectured in anatomy in Bristol. He completed Basic Surgical Training at Bristol Royal Infirmary, before joining the South-western Deanery Specialist Training Scheme in Urological Surgery.

During Specialist Training, he achieved first place in the European Board of Urology Examination in 1999 and then undertook two years of grant-funded laboratory research studying the insulin-like growth factor axis in the development of prostate cancer. After completing his training, he spent a year as a sub-specialist Uro-oncology Fellow at Southmead Hospital, Bristol gaining a comprehensive experience of complex open and laparoscopic urological surgery and the non-surgical management of urological cancer. He was admitted to the Specialist Register for Urology (GMC number 4026925) in 2006.

Mr Jefferson has written articles and book chapters about nocturia, prostate and bladder cancer. He is also co-author of Prostate Cancer: a comprehensive guide for patients. Since appointment he has developed the research portfolio for both translational research and clinical trials at University Hospital and Lead Clinician for Urological Cancer, running a tertiary referral practice for prostate and bladder cancer. He is also Clinical Educational Supervisor to medical students from Warwick Medical School, which is based at UHCW.

Mr Jefferson is married to a Consultant Radiologist and has one daughter. He enjoys membership of Leander Club, Warwick Boat Club and Warwickshire Golf & Country Club.
