About Mr Khalid Ghufoor

Personal Profile

Mr Khalid Ghufoor is a highly experienced and approachable Consultant ENT Surgeon who has been caring for patients with ear, nose and throat conditions for more than three decades. Known for his calm manner, clear communication and thoughtful approach, he is dedicated to helping patients feel understood, reassured and confident throughout their care.

Mr Ghufoor graduated from the Royal London Hospital School of Medicine in 1990 and began his career in General Surgery, achieving his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1995. He later specialised in ENT (Otolaryngology) through the North Thames ENT Training Programme, gaining extensive experience across several leading London hospitals, including St Mary’s Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, The Royal National Throat, Nose & Ear Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital. During this time, he developed advanced skills in minimally invasive surgery for cancers of the larynx, pharynx and oral cavity, as well as valuable experience in skull base surgery at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

He was appointed as a Consultant at St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospitals in 2002 and later became an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London and The Royal National Throat, Nose & Ear Hospital. Today, he serves as Lead Clinician and Head of the ENT, Head & Neck Surgery Department at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. He also plays a key role in training future ENT surgeons as the ENT Training Programme Director for North Thames and as a Clinical Tutor at The Royal College of Surgeons of England.

While Mr Ghufoor’s principal clinical interest lies in Head and Neck Cancer Surgery, he continues to offer comprehensive care for a wide range of adult and paediatric ENT conditions. He specialises in throat problems, sleep apnoea and snoring, voice disorders and tumours of the pharynx, larynx, thyroid and salivary glands. As part of the multidisciplinary Head and Neck Unit at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, he works closely with radiologists, oncologists, speech therapists and other specialists to ensure patients receive coordinated, personalised care.

Mr Ghufoor is skilled in both traditional and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He frequently uses endoscopic transoral laser surgery, a technique that allows cancers and other conditions to be treated through the mouth using a carbon dioxide laser—avoiding the need for external incisions and often supporting faster recovery.

Most recently, he has established a specialised multidisciplinary service dedicated to professional voice and swallowing disorders. This service offers state‑of‑the‑art diagnostics and tailored treatment plans, providing private patients with comprehensive, expert care for even the most complex voice‑related concerns.

Patients value Mr Ghufoor for his expertise, his gentle and reassuring manner, and his commitment to delivering care that is both highly skilled and deeply compassionate. Whether treating a straightforward ENT concern or guiding someone through a more complex diagnosis, he is dedicated to supporting every patient with clarity, kindness and exceptional clinical care.
