Ms Kadambari Oswal is a Consultant Ophthalmic and Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Woodlands Hospital in Darlington. She welcomes NHS and self-pay patients.

Ms Oswal also leads the 'Vitreoretinal' service at County Durham and Darlington Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This area of ophthalmology relates to the internal structures at the back of the eye.

She is a very experienced cataract surgeon and receives referrals for complex cataract surgeries in her current role. She also manages and performs surgeries for complications of cataract surgery that are referred to her. She has the experience of using both premium intraocular lenses and secondary intraocular lenses.

Ms Oswal completed medical school in 1999. She then completed a post-graduate master's degree in 'Ophthalmology' at the prestigious institute of KMC, Manipal Academy of Higher Education in India. Here, she was adjudged the best outgoing trainee for the year 2004 and was awarded a gold medal. She worked as an 'Assistant Professor' in Ophthalmology at the same institute upon completion of her post-graduate degree until 2005. 

Some of Ms Oswal's awards include:

  • The 'best outgoing post-graduate' for MS Ophthalmology in 2004
  • The 'Macular Society Award in 2018 for Excellence', as part of the retinal team working at the James West Centre in Sheffield
  • The 'Clinical Excellence Award' in 2020 from County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust

After moving to the UK, Ms Oswal did her early Ophthalmology training in East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. She then pursued her research interest and worked as an academic fellow at the Academic Unit of Ophthalmology at Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre. She worked under Professor P Murray and Miss S Rauz for a year in 2010. She then completed run-through training in Ophthalmology in the West Midlands and North East Deanery. Ms Oswal was awarded the 'Certificate of Completion of Training' (CCT) in January 2018.

Having developed a special interest in vitreoretinal surgery with an innate surgical ability, she undertook a year-long 'Vitreoretinal' fellowship at Royal Hallamshire Hospitals, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and is committed to teaching and training. Ms Oswal is the 'Clinical Supervisor' for regional trainees and the 'Lead Clinical Supervisor' for an advanced nurse practitioner course with interest in vitreoretinal surgery. She maintains an active role in clinical research. Ms Oswal is also an examiner for The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London.
