Dr Julius Cairn completed undergraduate training at The Royal London Hospital Medical College and post-graduate respiratory medicine specialty training in the North-West Thames deanery. This included attachments at the Royal Brompton, Harefield, Central Middlesex and Charing Cross Hospitals. His research at Harefield and the Royal Brompton Hospitals in to Bronchiolitis Obliterans Syndrome following lung transplantation led to the award of a MD degree from Imperial College, University of London.
His outpatient practice, at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust and Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust covers all aspects of respiratory medicine. He has access to excellent diagnostic facilities including bronchoscopy and works closely with colleagues in thoracic surgery, radiology and respiratory physiology.
His NHS practice includes general respiratory medicine clinics, fibreoptic bronchoscopy and subspecialty clinics in interstitial lung disease. His current clinical governance and teaching interests include the management of pneumonia and oxygen prescribing and he is a member of the West Herts Hospitals’ antimicrobial and medical gas committees.
