About Dr Joyce Leman

Personal Profile

Joyce Leman is a highly experienced dermatologist having been an NHS consultant for over 20 years. Following specialist training in Edinburgh and Glasgow, her first consultant post was in Forth Valley. Thereafter, she spent more than a decade in Glasgow where she co-ran a severe psoriasis and a combined dermatology/rheumatology clinic and was active in clinical trials exploring novel therapies to treat inflammatory skin disease. More recently she established a severe eczema service in Fife, and a pharmacist-led acne clinic in Forth Valley.

Her focus has always been and remains direct, face to face patient care. Joyce offers 30 minute new patient consultations, allowing time for careful and thorough assessment, clear explanation and a structured management plan.

She is a past secretary of the Scottish Dermatology Society and is a member of the British Association of Dermatologists and the American Academy of Dermatology. She has been an advisor for the Scottish Medicines Consortium and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and has lectured extensively on inflammatory skin disease and biological therapies. Alongside clinical commitments, she has had roles in industry e.g. as a Scientific Fellow for LEO Pharma in their bio-dermatology division, helping gain regulatory approval for new treatments so that they can be adopted into clinical practice.

Outside medicine, having been relieved of taxi duties for (mostly) independent sports-daft twin boys, she can indulge her passions for Scottish Rugby, creating herbaceous borders, devouring contemporary fiction, ensuring her energetic labrador is well walked, and replenishing any calories burnt with friends willing to sample her cookery experiments.
