Mr John Robinson is a highly experienced Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in upper gastrointestinal (Upper GI) surgery, laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), and metabolic (bariatric) surgery.
He provides expert surgical care for a wide range of general surgical conditions, with a focus on minimally invasive (keyhole) techniques that support faster recovery and improved patient outcomes.
Mr Robinson completed the majority of his surgical training in the West Midlands, where he developed a strong foundation in general and advanced surgical practice.
He later undertook an MD in Bristol at the University of Bristol, where his research focused on the factors contributing to Type 2 diabetes. This early academic work helped shape his long-term interest in metabolic health and obesity-related disease.
He completed his Surgical Registrar training in Bristol before progressing to advanced specialist training. Following this, he undertook a prestigious post-Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) fellowship in bariatric surgery in New Zealand, where he gained experience in advanced metabolic and weight-loss surgical techniques.
Mr Robinson has developed extensive expertise in both general and specialist gastrointestinal surgery. His key clinical areas include:
He is particularly experienced in minimally invasive surgical techniques, which are designed to reduce postoperative pain, shorten hospital stays, and support quicker recovery.
Since his appointment in 2014, Mr Robinson has played a key role in establishing and expanding a successful bariatric surgery service in Worcestershire. Through this work, he has helped improve access to specialist surgical treatment for patients living with obesity and related metabolic conditions.
He continues to contribute to both elective and general surgical services, managing a broad range of complex surgical cases and supporting service development within his clinical teams.
Mr Robinson’s interest in metabolic surgery is closely linked to his academic background and research into Type 2 diabetes. He is particularly interested in how surgical interventions can improve long-term health outcomes for patients with obesity and metabolic disease.
Mr Robinson is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-focused care. He takes a personalised approach to treatment, ensuring that each patient receives clear information, appropriate surgical options, and support throughout their treatment journey.
His goal is to help patients improve their health, manage complex conditions effectively, and achieve long-term wellbeing through safe and evidence-based surgical care.
