John qualified from Cambridge University Medical School in 1986, having also studied at the University of St Andrews. His postgraduate training took place in London and Cambridge, the East Midlands, and Glasgow, and included a 12 month fellowship at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

John has been a Consultant ENT specialist since 1998 and is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and New Victoria Hospitals in Glasgow.
