Ms. Mok is a Consultant Bariatric, Upper GI, and General Surgeon at Homerton Hospital and the Clinical Lead and MDT Lead for Bariatric Surgery Service at Homerton Hospital.
Ms Mok has extensive experience in weight loss surgery, metabolic medicine, and general surgical procedures. She started her training in academic surgery in Glasgow, followed by higher subspecialty training in Manchester and London, where she developed expertise in bariatric and metabolic surgery, upper GI procedures, and laparoscopic techniques through training in excellent centres.
Ms. Mok has a strong research background, having completed an MSc in Clinical Nutrition at University College London, where she conducted studies on feeding behavior. Her research has contributed to a deeper understanding of nutritional influences on body weight regulation.
With a special interest in pharmacotherapy for weight management, Ms. Mok’s PhD research focused on the role of GLP-1 in bariatric surgery and weight loss. She has been actively involved in clinical trials evaluating the role of GLP-1 receptor agonists and was a recruiter in the landmark STEP 1 trial, which played a key role in informing the adoption of semaglutide (Wegovy) into clinical practice. Her work in pharmacological weight loss interventions bridges the gap between medical and surgical obesity treatment, offering patients tailored, multimodal strategies for sustained weight loss.
In her NHS role, Ms. Mok serves as both Clinical Lead and MDT Lead for Bariatric Surgery at Homerton Hospital, overseeing a multidisciplinary team dedicated to optimising outcomes for weight loss patients. She also consults for NHS England on optimising bariatric pathways, contributing to the development of national strategies for improving patient access and long-term success in metabolic surgery. She specialises in a full range of bariatric procedures, including sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and one anastomosis gastric bypass, focusing on individualised treatment pathways for long-term weight maintenance.
Beyond bariatric surgery, she is proficient in upper GI and general surgery, offering a range of procedures, including:
✅ Laparoscopic hernia repair (inguinal, femoral, umbilical, incisional)
✅ Gallbladder surgery (laparoscopic cholecystectomy)
✅ Anti-reflux surgery (fundoplication, hiatus hernia repair)
✅ Upper GI endoscopy and diagnostic procedures
Ms. Mok is deeply committed to teaching and training and actively contributes to surgical education in the NHS. She teaches on various surgical skills courses, focusing on laparoscopic techniques, bariatric surgery, and upper GI procedures. She also serves as a mentor to aspiring surgeons, supporting trainees in bariatric, general, and upper GI surgery. Her passion for education extends to multidisciplinary training, working alongside dietitians, psychologists, and other specialists to improve holistic obesity care.
Outside of clinical practice, Ms. Mok has a strong interest in expedition medicine and has participated in medical trips to Madagascar and the Peruvian Amazon, providing healthcare in remote and challenging environments.
With a comprehensive, research-driven, and patient-focused approach, Ms. Mok remains at the forefront of bariatric surgery, obesity research, and pharmacotherapy, helping patients achieve lasting improvements in weight and metabolic health through evidence-based interventions.
