Personal Profile

Mr Jay Goswamy is a Consultant ENT Surgeon practicing all aspects of adult and paediatric ENT.

He is the Clinical Director for Adult and Paediatric ENT Surgery in the NHS. His NHS practice is based at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (Wythenshawe Hospital), The Christie and in East Cheshire (Macclesfield).

He is frequently invited by Thoracic, Plastic and Vascular surgeons to manage challenging surgical problems.

After completing medical school in Sheffield with distinction Jay completed his surgical training in and around Manchester. To complete his training, he was awarded a nationally selected surgical fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London, where he was trained by senior surgeons from ENT, Maxillofacial and Plastic surgery in advanced head and neck, facial plastic and airway surgery. He has learnt from world renowned surgeons in Melbourne, Auckland, Toronto, New York and throughout Europe.

He chairs the North Western regional shared airway multi-disciplinary meeting and organizes academic research positions within his unit for medical students and junior doctors to advance the understanding of head and neck cancer and adult airway disease. He is the undergraduate ENT lead at Wythenshawe Hospital.

Jay is an examiner for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons examination, the examination is required to be a Consultant in the UK. He is also on the selection committee for national core surgical training and national selection for specialist training in ENT surgery.

Outside of medicine he is a figurative painter, fitness enthusiast and aspiring golfer. He is married with 2 daughters and a cockapoo called Molly.

Clinical Interests

His particular areas of interest are the surgical management of benign and malignant head and neck diseases including thyroid and salivary gland surgery as well as adult airway and voice surgery.

He enjoys the medical and surgical management of sinus disease and works closely with technology companies to ensure the latest techniques are available for patients. He sees and treats children of all ages and has a particular interest in ear correction surgery (pinnaplasty) and both coblation intra-capsular and cold steel extra-capsular tonsillectomy.

For complex voice and swallowing issues including the treatment of professional voice users he offers a joint clinic with leading senior speech therapists Paul McKenna and Su Durant.

For complex thyroid issues he works closely with renowned Endocrinologist Annice Mukherjee.
