Mr Jawad Ahmad is an internationally recognised Consultant Surgeon with more than 25 years of experience specialising in liver, pancreas, gallbladder, bile duct and hernia surgery. He is one of the UK's leading specialists in robotic and laparoscopic (keyhole) hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, providing patients with advanced minimally invasive treatment designed to support faster recovery, reduced pain and excellent outcomes.

Mr Ahmad has been a Consultant Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB) Surgeon at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire since 2015. In 2018, he pioneered robotic HPB surgery at the hospital and became the UK's first Robotic HPB Proctor. Since then, he has trained more than 100 consultant surgeons from the UK and Europe and has helped establish 17 of the 23 robotic HPB centres across England.

Mr Ahmad is currently the only Platinum-level robotic surgery trainer in the UK and Europe, reflecting his extensive expertise and leadership in robotic HPB surgery.

Mr Ahmad has played a significant role in advancing robotic and minimally invasive HPB surgery in the UK and internationally. At the 2025 International Robotic HPB Conference, he was recognised as “the father of robotic HPB surgery in the UK” in recognition of his contribution to the development of robotic HPB surgery.

He regularly lectures internationally and continues to contribute to advances in robotic surgery and minimally invasive cancer surgery.

Mr Ahmad's surgical outcomes are better than the national average, according to data published in the National Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) database. Alongside his surgical expertise, he provides personalised and compassionate care, ensuring treatment is tailored to each patient's individual needs.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Ahmad is a Sub-Editor of the Journal of Robotic Surgery, an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick and a Fellowship Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons.

He has published extensively in the field of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and continues to contribute to research into early cancer detection and bile duct injury prevention.

Mr Ahmad welcomes both private patients and NHS-referred patients from across the UK.

Patients without private medical insurance can ask their GP or consultant to make a named NHS referral to Mr Ahmad. Patients interested in robotic surgery for pancreatic, liver or bile duct cancer may also request a named referral.

Mr Ahmad can assess eligible patients in his NHS clinic and, where robotic surgery is clinically appropriate, may offer treatment through the NHS at no cost to the patient. All NHS referrals and treatments remain subject to standard NHS eligibility, commissioning and clinical assessment requirements.
