Dr Jones is a General Practitioner at The Duchy Hospital in Harrogate.
He qualified from The University of Leeds School of Medicine in 1993 and after the usual house jobs at Halifax and Dewsbury and A&E in Halifax, undertook a medical rotation in Stafford.
This consisted of training in Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Neurology and Coronary/Intensive Care. After that, he moved to Oxford for GP training at St Bartholomew’s Medical Centre and The John Radcliffe Hospital.
Before moving to London to work as a GP for a couple of years, he spent time working as a Civilian Medical Practitioner at RAF Benson near Oxford where he developed an interest in aviation medicine, sports medicine and acupuncture - and went on a helicopter ride or two! He eventually moved back up to Yorkshire in 2001 and has been here ever since.
He is the senior partner at his NHS GP practice and an Honorary Lecturer at The Leeds School of Medicine, teaching medical students on placement at the practice, as well as being involved in the 4th year exams and admission interviews for new students.
In the past, he has been an Events Doctor at Earls Court in London, looking after the Junior Talent Programme for British Diving and even the occasional match as Team Doctor for Oxford Reserves whilst there.
He currently does a lot of charity work for Prostate Cancer UK, Parkinson’s UK and The Alzheimer’s Society, mainly in the form of cycling, having done the first leg of the Tour De France several times.
Dr Jones considers a patient-centred approach fundamental to being a GP, and not a one problem at a time approach, as usually most issues are interlinked.
