Dr Azad is a Consultant Dermatologist at Woodlands Hospital in Darlington. She sees self-pay and insured patients only, and patients usually will not need a referral letter and can self refer.

She has been practising independently since 2008 and at James Cook University Hospital since 2004.

After completing her basic medical training and post-graduate training in India, she came to the UK in 2000 and completed training at Glasgow Royal infirmary and in Teesside. Dr Azad is on the specialist register and completed her CCT in Dermatology.

She runs a hub and spoke service at James Cook as well as covering Northallerton. Dr Azad sees patients from North Yorkshire as well as Teesside.

Her specialist interests include vulval dermatology, lasers and cutaneous surgery for skin cancer.

She undertakes weekly vulval clinics in the NHS and take referrals from the Teesside region and beyond. She is the Vulval Lead of the hospital. Dr Azad also does a combined monthly vulval clinic alongside a gynaecology consultant. She has presented at national, as well as international vulval societies in the past.

Dr Azad has been the Clinical Director for Dermatology for more than 2.5 years now. Clinical Director duties involve:

  • Leading the team
  • Being responsible for the teams standards via appraisal systems
  • Running of the clinical directorate meetings
  • Liaising with the collaborative teams
  • Making sure that the team is to the highest standards
  • Recruitment and retention of staff

She is involved in the teaching and training of registrars and research activities within the NHS. In which, she has been a Principal Investigator for several studies over many years. Dr Azad has had several publications through research projects.

She is also the Educational Supervisor for gynaecology registrars doing the advanced training module in vulval dermatology.

Dr Azad does weekly surgical lists in the NHS, where she removes skin cancers from the head and neck. Dermatology registrars are attached to that clinic for further training and learning.

Multi-disciplinary teams

Dr Azad is part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) for skin cancer in the Trust. She does a combined clinic with a gynaecology consultant monthly and has access to the multi-disciplinary team for vulval cancer. She can refer patients through that multi-disciplinary team.

Personal touches

Outside of work, Dr Azad enjoys long walks in parts or North Yorkshire with family and her dog, Simba. She also enjoys cycling with her husband over summer months.
