About Prof Janani Pillai

Personal Profile

Professor Janani Pillai is a Consultant Radiologist with a special interest in multimodality imaging of skeletal injuries using Ultrasound, MRI, X-rays and CT. She is also an expert at providing imaging-guided musculoskeletal injections. She is experienced in elite sports, has worked as a Sports Radiologist in the  XXII Commonwealth Games and continues to work with a Professional Sports club.

After completing her general radiology training at King's College Hospital, London, she obtained her FRCR and the EDiR (European diploma in radiology). Whilst at King's, the extensive exposure to trauma and musculoskeletal radiology, King’s being one of the 4 major trauma centres in London, kindled her interest in musculoskeletal imaging, prompting her to obtain the sought-after musculoskeletal fellowship at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. As a part of the training, she also did an Honorary Fellowship at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. Prof Pillai has qualified in European Diploma in Musculoskeletal Radiology and is now a substantive Consultant Radiologist in the London North West Health Care NHS Trust (Northwick Park and Central Middlesex Hospitals),.

Prof J K Pillai (Previously Dr J Kumaraguru) is a recipient of the Institute of Leadership and Management endorsed Award as a Radiology Registrar in 2015.  She is an invited member of the European Society of Skeletal Radiologists Sports, Arthritis and Ultrasound Subcommittees and was previously part of the British Society of Skeletal Radiologists Expert panel for iREFER.

Prof Pillai has been nominated for The Trainer of the Year Award in 2017 for her commitment to teaching. She is GMC recognised Trainer, Medical Educator and an Honorary Professor of MSK Radiology, passionately enjoys teaching radiology including Ultrasound imaging to Radiologists, Doctors and other Healthcare Professionals. She is involved in teaching/ examining medical students from Brunel University, Imperial College. Additionally, she serves on the interview panel for recruiting Radiologists. She continues to teach, lecture, and chair in various regional meetings, national and international arenas on invite.

In her spare time, she gracefully practices Indian classical dance weekly and keeps fit by running daily.
