About Mr Jamie Vatish

Personal Profile

Mr Jamie Vatish is a Consultant Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon specialising in all aspects of breast disease, with a focus on the surgical management of breast cancer. He provides a comprehensive service for patients with breast cancer, benign breast conditions or those who simply require reassurance. Jamie has advanced training in Oncoplastic surgery, which combines breast cancer surgery with techniques to preserve the overall aesthetic of the breast. He is one of the few surgeons in the West Midlands who performs Chest Wall Perforator Flaps in Breast Conserving Surgery, avoiding the need for a mastectomy.

Jamie obtained his medical degree at Guys, Kings and St Thomas’s Medical School in London, gaining an additional degree in Psychology during this period. He completed higher surgical training in the Midlands before being selected for a National Fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, offered only to a handful of breast or plastic surgeons per year. He undertook this period of training at the renowned Leeds Breast Unit, where he developed a special interest in the management of Breast-Implant Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a rare type of immune cancer associated with Breast Implants. Jamie’s current NHS practice is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, one of the largest NHS trusts and Breast Departments in the UK.

Outside of his clinical practice, Jamie has an extensive role in training the next generation of doctors and surgeons. He holds a degree in medical education and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He is regularly invited to teach on courses at the Royal College of Surgeons, London. He is widely published in all aspects of surgery and breast disease with a special interest in breast cancer genomics and breast conserving surgery.

Jamie spends most of his time away from work with his two young daughters or trying to add to his record collection.
