About Mr Ivo Dukic

Personal Profile

Mr Ivo Dukic is a Consultant Urological surgeon with specialist interests in endourology (urological stone surgery), general urology and technology in healthcare. 

After qualifying from University of St Andrews and University of Manchester he completed basic surgical training in London and Manchester in 2009. He then chose to complete specialist urology training in the Manchester region (North Western Deanery).  He underwent further sub-specialist training at the prestigious Bristol Urological Institute, North Bristol NHS Trust and completed a fellowship in endourology and laparoscopic (keyhole) renal surgery. He became a Urology Consultant in 2015, developing a wide range of interests including upper tract cancers (kidney and ureter) surgery, complex kidney stone surgery, endourology, and paediatric urology.

In 2021, he joined University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust where he performs complex stone surgery, general urological procedures and emergency urology procedures. 

He is the educational lead for urology at Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope Hospitals. He has been a member of the Panel of Question Writers for the Royal College of Surgeons Intercollegiate Specialty Examination in Urology since 2017. He is an educational supervisor to registrars, core trainees and foundation doctors in the West Midlands. 

He promotes quality, safety and research in healthcare through the use of technology and has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Informatics through The University of Edinburgh. He is has been a sub-editor of the Digital Review section of Urology News since 2013 and regular writes and prepares technology related articles in urological surgery. He has published widely in urological journals.

  • Treatment and prevention of kidney and ureteric stones with ureteroscopy and LASER lithotripsy
  • Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy
  • Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for treatment of larger stones in kidneys
  • Diagnosis and treatment of upper urinary tract cancers, LASER ablation of upper urinary tract cancers
  • General urology procedures and diagnostics tests and assessment of:
    • visible and non-visible blood in the urine
    • raised PSA and abnormal prostate examinations
    • recurrent urinary tract infections and prevention
    • loin pain
    • erectile dysfunction
    • phimosis or problems with the foreskin
    • undescended testis
    • lower urinary tract symptoms and difficulty passing urine or frequency
